SHIGA
In the south of Ogoto Onsen there is a Tendai temple called Hokoji Temple. In the grounds there is a pond called Nebutsuike (Jagaike), from which subterranean water is said to bubble up eternally. The people of the village have long believed that drinking this water will heal sickness, and that its mud can cure skin diseases and heat rashes.
Ogoto Onsen has been a site for hot springs for 1,200 years, supplied with a constant source of pH 9.0 high alkaline water.
