Ishiyama-dera Temple bell tower (an Important Cultural Property) is home to the temple’s bell (also an Important Cultural Property), which was made during the Heian Period (794 - 1185) and is widely known for its beautiful sound when rung. The first 108 people to arrive on New Year’s Eve can perform one of each of the 108 ceremonial strikes.
