[Fall Leaves Information] Hachiman-bori Canal

In the vicinity of Shinmachi, approx. 2km north from JR Omi-Hachiman Station, the old townscape is almost perfectly preserved. A designated Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, a number of merchant homes built from the end of the Edo period (1603 - 1868) to the Meiji period (1868-1912) still remain intact.

With so many buildings with connections to the Omi Merchants remaining, this place is also often used for filming movies and TV shows! Many of you will probably have seen it on TV!

The old townscape continues all around the Hachiman-bori Canal, making it incredibly fun to even just take a stroll!

The area is also bursting with popular confectioners and cafés offering Japanese sweets, making it the perfect place for a day trip while enjoying the flavors of fall!

Walk along the cobbles while looking over the gentle flow of the Hachiman-bori Canal and you'll feel like you've slipped back in time to the Edo period!

You can also take a tour of the waterways in the vicinity of the Hachiman-bori Canal!
While rocking gently on a boat, take in all of the wonderful vistas that these canals have to offer!
