Ishiyama-dera Temple is where Murasaki Shikibu is said to have started writing The Tale of Genji. There are close to 2000 trees in the grounds, with the color of their leaves decorating everything.

Pass through the east gate and proceed along the path and you'll encounter lanterns all along it! How romantic!

The crimson leaf illuminations at Ishiyama-dera Temple were selected in 2015 as "a Night View Inheritance of Japan."
This is the first time in all of Japan this classification has been given to crimson leaf illuminations, and you'll see why once you experience them for yourself!

Of course, the leaves also look stunning during the daytime!

All the maple trees across the grounds will turn a wonderful crimson. Enjoy the incredible leaves while taking in the National Treasure main temple and other amazing buildings.
