Biwako Hanakaido Ryokan in Ogoto onsen close to Kyoto is an elegant Japanese style guest house. You can enjoy a truly Japanese experience, with wonderful food and a Japanese onsen bath. There are rooms with beds or futons to choose from. The friendly staff will help you to fully appreciate what a relaxing experience a Japanese Ryokan is.

I wonder where we should go?
We couldn't wait to set off on our Biwako adventure!
After seeing Biwako through the train window in no time we were at Ogoto onsen station.
The shuttle bus was waiting to take us straight to the ryokan from the station.
In front of the ryokan was the foot bath. Very welcome after a day sightseeing in Kyoto!
We couldn't resist a little souvenir shopping. The best thing was Yuzu jam.
The Ogoto onsen mascot Ogoton was cute enough to cuddle.
The whole family enjoyed tea and snacks before heading up to the ryokan.

The foot spa was a welcome break for everyone.
The foot spa water was sparkling clear.
It's a bit hot at first but you soon get used to it.

Everything about Biwako Hanakaidou felt relaxing and elegant.
When we arrived we were served drinks in the lobby.
The lobby looked out on a beautiful inner garden.
Our room was 401.
As we went to our room the friendly staff told us everything about the ryokan.

The balcony looked out over Biwako. It was beautiful in the evening and the sunrise was breathtaking!
We relaxed in our room drinking tea and chatting.
There were yukatas for everyone, the children loved wearing them around the ryokan.

The private open air bath, so you could enjoy the onsen with a little privacy.
It was hot, but so relaxing!
There was room for the whole family to stretch out in the bath.
The large indoor bath "Bankara-no-yu" looked out over another lovely garden.
Everything was lined up ready for washing.
It felt like a real adventure walking through the inner garden to get to the private dining rooms.
Everywhere in the hotel were displays of beautiful artwork.
A glass of beer - the perfect end to the day.
Cheers! Everyone happy at the end of the day.
Our own waitress brought us anything we wanted.
The appetizer looked as good as it tasted.
You could grill your own meat on the table in front of you.
Everyone, even the children loved all the food.
Cutlery was availiable, but everyone wanted to try chopsticks.
The meat was delicious.
Desert was fresh fruit.
Mr. Naito, the General Manager, had lived in England and spoke excellent English.
We were all given beautiful souvenir cloths, I'll use mine for wrapping my lunch box!

The view out of the coffee shop window was lovely while eating breakfast.
You can have a freshly cooked western breakfast in the coffee shop if you request it.
We couldn't resist a bit more souvenir shoping in the hotel shop "Hana no Kura".
I loved the traditional "jinbesan" (kimono like jacket and shorts that children often wear in the summer.)
I chose the tie dyed blue and white "jinbesan". Do you like it?
