The traditional shrine founded in A.D. 717 is said to be sufficiently protected by the Tokugawa family. The craft works including the vermillion main gate said to be dedicated by Ashikaga Takauji are housed. There is a garden designated as a national scenic beauty in the precincts, attracting visitors during the foliage season.
